TopKids Mangere East
TopKids Mangere East is a childcare and education centre located in the heart of vibrant South Auckland, near Massey Road. We have 6 rooms which cater for our precious babies, right up to our preschool rooms for our busy 5-year-olds.
Our childcare and education programme
Be School Ready
As part of our programme we provide a Be School Ready initiative which helps children develop the skills needed for a happy and successful transition to school. We want to foster exploration, problem solving and extend on children’s interests. This programme includes:
- Social skills such as sharing, turn-taking, initiating and maintaining friendships, participating in routine and sustained engagement
- Emotional intelligence such as being able to express emotions appropriately and respect the emotions of others
- Self-regulation and self-confidence
- Early numeracy, literacy and science
- Practical self-help skills
Healthy Eating
Our centre is working with Massey University and University of Waikato to tackle the problems of childhood obesity. We promote healthy eating and exercise patterns and researchers will be investigating the benefits of physical and nutrition practices.
Why TopKids Mangere East
At TopKids Mangere East we provide a challenging, safe and fun environment for children where they can learn through play and exploration. We have a culturally diverse community and this is reflected in our teaching staff, some speak several languages. We love what we do, working alongside whanau to support learning and development for our beautiful tamariki.
We prepare children for life. Our aim as that when a child leaves TopKids Mangere East they are healthy in body, mind and well-being, knowing what makes them unique and have confidence for their future. We foster and support social and emotional skills to ensure our future generation is kind, empathetic, independent and confident problem solvers. We teach this through respectful teaching and role-modelling, lots of praise, empathy for others, and supporting children to develop self-help skills and problem solving thinking.
How we respect culture
- We have a multicultural teaching team, so all our children feel supported and welcome.
- Children hear their home languages at our centre. We speak English, Hindi, Fijian, Tongan, Samoan and te reo Maori.
- At TopKids Mangere East, we celebrate each other’s differences and encourage the children to do the same.
How we communicate with your children
We know parents want their children to be spoken to with kindness and respect. Here’s some information about how our teachers talk to your child at TopKids Mangere East.
- We kneel and talk to your child at their level if they are feeling unsure.
- We stay calm and keep our words positive.
- We let children know what we are going to do, for example – we tell them if we are going to wipe their nose or face.
- We greet our children warmly when they arrive at our centre.
- We make sure our children feel safe and liked.
- We encourage children to express their feelings.
iMoko Health Service
We are so excited to confirm that we have the iMoko programme at TopKids Mangere East.
iMoko is an innovative approach to healthcare for children, with the aim is to deliver high quality basic health services for children. Dr Lance O’Sullivan developed the program which uses smart iPad software to allow (with parent permission) staff to easily arrange health checks for children with common problems such as skin infections, dental infections, strep throat and headlice. This means if you have any basic concerns about your child’s health, we can lodge this directly to team of doctors online where they can assess [using photos], diagnose and if needed, send a medication prescription through to the local chemist ready for pick up - this can all happen within minutes.
This saves you time making appointments and time spent waiting at the doctors for basic health concerns.
