First Steps Waihi

BestStart’s First Steps Waihi is a quality education and care centre located near Waihi East Primary school. We welcome children from three months to five years old, 7.30-5.30 Monday to Friday.

Your child will be supported to learn and grow alongside our team of teachers that are passionate about what they do. We have two separate rooms Nga Teina room (0-2years) and Nga Tuakana room (2-5years) to ensure your child will be in an age and stage appropriate environment.  

Your child can engage in our play-based curriculum within our beautiful indoor and outdoor environments. There are a wide variety of resources available for your child to explore, that are reset throughout the day, based on your child's current interests. Our play-based curriculum allows your child to explore the many areas of play including physical play, sandpit, art and crafts, sensory play, playdough, literacy, numeracy, music and movement, construction and more. Our curriculum and planning are influenced by the NZ ECE Curriculum, Te Whariki. We use Storypark and portfolios to document your child’s learning journey while following your aspirations and goals for your child. 

We build warm and trusting relationships with all of our children, so they feel a strong sense of belonging. We are committed to our parents, whanau and the Waihi community and we pride ourselves in our relationships. We have regular events for parents and the community to attend, go on regular excursions and have a great relationship with Waihi East School, where we support and work alongside the school to ensure children have smooth transitions. We have a Be School Ready initiative that supports children with developing the foundation skills to set them up with a successful learning journey.
