BestStart Tawa South (formerly ABC Redwood) is a quality early learning childcare centre welcoming infants through to preschoolers, located on Redwood Ave just 200m from Redwood School.

“The beauty of the world, lies in the diversity of its people” (unknown). The beauty of our centre is the wonderfully diverse teaching team that will greet you as you enter our environment and the way they embrace your child, culture, values and beliefs. We are proud to be a centre of excellence, recently receiving an award for “Working With Others”.

Our infants and toddlers room Pikopiko. In our Pikopiko Room we have a beautiful, open plan space with fantastic indoor-outdoor flow, along with a covered patio area as well as outdoor space for your child to explore. We are passionate about building relationships with you as whānau and we follow a primary care system. Your child’s primary caregiver will spend time getting to know your child, inquiring about your hopes and dreams for your child as well as their routine to make a smooth transition into our centre. The primary caregiver will share special moments with you that occur at the centre through daily conversations and via Storypark. Your child will be provided a range of resources and support to develop independence, build on their physical skills, learn how to positively interact with others and learn both verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Our preschool Māhuri. Our Māhuri room is spacious and open plan where your child will learn while they play. “Children learn as they play. Most importantly in play children learn how to learn” (O. Fred Donaldson). Children are provided with specific, fun, engaging learning experiences tailored for your toddler or young child. Your child will have the opportunity to make their own choices, while building on their current knowledge, interests and skills. They are supported by the well qualified and experienced teaching team to develop independence, build relationships with others and be curious learners, setting them up for their next learning journey at school. We are lucky to have a separate dining room and bedroom ensuring your child can enjoy these special moments peacefully during the day.

Be School Ready - We understand the importance of ensuring children are ready for school. Here, at ABC Redwood, your child will be prepared for school through BestStart's Be School Ready initiative. This initiative is introduced when children first start at our centre through the way teachers support children to develop independence, make decisions, problem solve and develop a love of learning as well as providing experiences that promote literacy and numeracy. In addition, we organise school visits, to some of our local schools, prior to children starting school. We value these visits to help build confidence and support children’s transition to school.

We welcome you to come and visit us and share with us more about your family/whānau aspirations and share in your child’s learning journey as we build a partnership with you.

kind words from our parents

Parent

Our daughter has been at ABC Redwood for three years now, and we feel like everyone there is a part of our family. Every day the team demonstrate how much they care about her, her interests and her personal growth. I’m blown away by the amount of personal attention she receives, and the activities that the kaiako tailor just for her. She could not have a better “second family” and home away from home than at ABC Redwood.

Parent

We were ecstatic with the level of care both our boys received from you when we moved from the previous kindy, and we have been thrilled ever since. You are a special bunch of teachers lead by a special leader in Michelle.

Parent

This is our first experience with a childcare centre as this is our first child, she has been there coming up a year and it that time our expectations have been far exceeded of how ABC Redwood has helped develop our daughter’s skills and how well every staff member knows our daughter and is willing to form relationships with her.
