BestStart Rongotai (formerly Early Years Rongotai), is an early learning centre in a cosy renovated house with lovely gardens. Our team of experienced teachers are all uniquely able to delight and inspire your child to reach their next stage and achieve their goals.

Our Vision “A home away from home where family and community connect.”

At BestStart Rongotai we strive for everyone who comes through our doors to experience a welcoming and peaceful place where you quickly become part of our family. We provide a fun and interesting environment where friendships and memories are made between children, teachers, and families. Here, you will see a place where familiar rituals are embraced and shared to create a warm and homely learning environment.

We have two rooms in our centre: Our Mokomoko Room (3 months to 2 years): a small, warm room which caters for our smallest children, and their ages and stages of development. Our Purerehua Room (2 years to 5 years): our preschool space which offers a dining room and art space, intimate play room and an ever-changing playground  to provide a fun and engaging learning environment.

Respect -Our Mokomoko Room allows for infants to develop naturally, through free movement and play. Teachers follow children’s individual routines and rituals, and children are encouraged to achieve developmental milestones at their own pace. Our centre provides a culturally diverse environment for every child to thrive, and we observe the cultural events that occur throughout the year. You and your child’s culture and heritage will be acknowledged, accepted and celebrated.

Relationships - Relationships are a core value for us, so your child will have one teacher who will become their primary caregiver, being the first point of contact for both you and your child, allowing you to become close and comfortable with them. Friendships are a key part of our curriculum in our Purerehua Room, and teachers invite and extend children’s social skills with each other and their teachers through small group activities, group meals, and regular mat times.

Responsive Curriculum - We plan our activities and teaching around the children’s interests. You and your child will be welcomed into an inspiring place, with beautiful spaces for children to play and their curiosities to be explored. Our regular excursions to our local community, such as the library or the local shops, mean your child will have the opportunity to connect with the Rongotai/ Kilbirnie area. Both our infants and young children have the chance to explore out in the community, out and about in the real world!

Why choose us?

  • Experienced, dynamic and passionate team
  • Community links & regular excursions
  • Small, warm home-like environment – with home cooked lunch each day.
  • Family vibe and whānaungatanga
  • Intimate infants space with dedicated infants teachers

kind words from our parents

It has been a great time well spent with all of you. Reaia has definitely enjoyed spending time with her friends and has nothing but good things to say when she is at home. I know she will definitely miss coming into kindy and will miss her best friend Ian just as much. Hadassah also has had many great memories with her sister Reaia at kindy and continues to share them with all who can hear.

I always felt safe leaving my daughter at the centre. She always had stories to tell me when she got home. I was very impressed that the children were included in prepping/cooking meals for their lunch, she loved doing this and would always tell me about what she made. I also love how her suggestions/opinions were listened to, this shows a great respect for the children’s thoughts and feelings.

Early Years Rongotai Road is a welcoming, safe and friendly environment where every child’s culture / heritage is celebrated. Our son brings home songs he has learnt at daycare and enjoys talking about the days’ events. He has especially enjoyed the outings, and has strong relationships with all of the teachers at the centre and I know he will miss everyone.

Thank you so much for being there for us during a difficult transition year in our lives. I deeply appreciate you r support. You have been so wonderful with Hannah and Lucy! I have always felt completely comfortable leaving them, you are professional, caring, perceptive and kind. You create such a welcoming environment for families and have such a strong connection with the local community. We will definitely be popping back in in the future.

Thank you all so much for the love and support you have given Harlem and I over the last 3 years. I know Harlem has really enjoyed his time there and if we weren’t moving so far away we would be keeping him here until he is ready for school. We will certainly visit when we can.
