BestStart Richmond Road, formerly First Steps Ponsonby, has an excellent reputation for providing quality childcare in the local and wider community. We’re located on Richmond Road, just in front of Richmond Road Primary School in Grey Lynn – a short walk from Ponsonby Road. It’s an easy drive from Westmere, Western Springs, Herne Bay, Point Chevalier and the CBD.

We believe that our most important role is to provide a nurturing environment in which children will feel safe and secure. We provide interactions that are positive, challenging and foster happy relationships. Our children, their families and whanau trust, grow and share in a unique partnership with us. Relationships along with an enriching stimulating environment help us to extend children’s strengths, interests and developmental needs.

The cultures of your families are valued and shared within the centre. We acknowledge and promote New Zealand’s bi-cultural heritage through understanding Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori. We reflect the unique place of Maori as Tangata Whenua and principle of partnership as acknowledged in the Treaty of Waitangi.

Our quality learning programme is based on Te Whaariki (National Early Childhood Curriculum). Through play, children are exposed to early concepts of maths, science, art, reading and other curriculum in readiness for life long learning.
