BestStart Nottingham Avenue

BestStart Nottingham Avenue (formerly ABC Halswell) provides quality education and childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years in the heart of Halswell. Our home-like centre is long-established and well-loved within the community.

We have three dedicated age-appropriate classrooms within two converted houses.  Each has their own well established gardens, trees and playgrounds that interconnect, so children can see one another in different areas throughout the day.

We offer excellent ratios in our Nursery, catering for just seven children, which provides children with wonderful opportunities to bond with their teachers and engage in meaningful interactions.

The Toddler room caters for children aged approximately 20 months to 3.5 years of age. This room provides children with a great stepping stone to learning. It provides opportunities for children to challenge themselves and extend their current knowledge, skills and abilities.

Our Preschool room caters for children aged approximately 3.5 to 5 years of age. The children in this room are encouraged to be responsible, respectful and contributing learners. Children lead their own learning and are very resourceful, practical learners who are eager to find out more.

Children engage with teachers, and work independently in our Be School Ready initiative which is immersed throughout the daily programme and routines, with resources readily available to them. 

We have developed close relationships with our local schools, Oaklands and Halswell, and offer termly visits to Oaklands School for children nearing 5 years old.  We also make monthly visits to Te Hapua, Halswell Library.

Children at our centre bring their own lunch boxes, which helps them to develop the self-care lunch box skills they will need when they start school.  Nutritious morning and afternoon teas are provided each day, which meet the Healthy Heart guidelines.
